A major passenger transport company in Bogotá, Colombia, has recently deployed over 500 Ultravision N5 series AI dash cam to improve passenger safety across the city. These dashcams, equipped with advanced AI algorithms and cabin monitoring systems, help strengthen oversight of driver behavior, ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers, and reduce incidents of theft and sexual assault.
For years, public transportation safety has been a persistent challenge in Bogotá. Issues such as speeding, driver fatigue, distracted driving, theft, and sexual harassment have plagued the system. While local authorities have made considerable efforts to address these problems, incidents continue to occur. The introduction of Ultravision’s AI dashcams may represent a meaningful step toward transforming public transport safety in the city.
Speeding remains a major threat, especially for vulnerable road users (VRUs) like pedestrians and cyclists. Despite Bogotá’s city-wide speed limit of 50km/h, violations are still common. The Ultravision N5 AI dash cam features a built-in G-sensor that monitors vehicle speed in real time. If the vehicle exceeds the limit, the system immediately alerts the driver to slow down. Additionally, its integrated AI active safety algorithms can detect dangerous behaviors such as driver fatigue or distraction, issuing timely warnings, uploading incidents to the fleet management platform, and enabling swift, effective interventions to protect passengers and drivers alike.
The problem of theft is also prevalent on Bogotá’s public transportation system, particularly during peak hours in crowded areas. To deter such crimes, the N5 AI dash cam supports two external cameras with night vision, providing comprehensive cabin surveillance even in low-light conditions. This not only discourages would-be thieves but also enables rapid response in the event of an incident. Drivers can activate the SOS emergency alarm button on the N5 AI dash cam to immediately alert police and request assistance on the spot.
Cabin monitoring is also a powerful tool against sexual harassment, which remains a serious concern in Bogotá’s public transport system. The cameras can record incidents as compelling video evidence, helping to identify and prosecute offenders quickly.
The fleet operator emphasized that this deployment is designed to better serve Bogotá’s public transport users, improve service quality, and create a safer, more reliable transit system for all.
